Come join Northeast High School students explore Making in the engineering classroom or afterschool in a new ‘makerspace club’.
Northeast recently added a course entitled “Computer Integrated Manufacturing” where students design and build automated machines using the VEX robotics platform in conjunction with robotic arms and CNC manufacturing equipment. Your presence will add excitement and encourage the students to think even further outside the box and create systems they did not know were possible.
The intern will have the opportunity to help students in this new course, assist upper-level students with complex applied math in the Principles of Engineering course, or assist the senior design students with their large projects.
Or space contains 3D printers, CNC routers and mills, a laser cutter, VEX robotics kits, REV robotics kits, Arduinos, Rasberry PIs, and a wide assortment of hand and power tools. Interns are encouraged to become familiar will these tools as they mentor and equip our students. Interns will also be expected to help maintain and improve the makerspace layout and organization for the most effective use of the space for student learning.
Willingness to try new things
An appreciation for hands-on learning
Well-organized and a good communicator
Previous experience with manufacturing, automation, or programming a plus
The manufacturing course is daily from 9-10:30AM. The senior capstone course is daily from 11-12:30. Principles of Engineering is T/Th from 1:20-2:55. The intern could also come after school to help with a new ‘makerspace club’ where students can work on their desired projects using a variety of equipment.
